Pediatricians Adopt Early Intervention Policy to Prevent Heart Disease

Spiraling childhood obesity rates have led the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) to adopt a new policy statement urging cholesterol screenings for at-risk children as young as 2 years of age.

At-risk children include those who are overweight, along with children with known family histories of high cholesterol and/or heart disease. For such children, the AAP recommends initial cholesterol screening between the ages of 2 and 10, and continuing through adolescence. The AAP also now suggests parents consult with their pediatricians about switching to reduced-fat (2 percent) milk for children between 12 months and 2 years of age who are overweight or who have family histories of obesity, dyslipidemia or cardiovascular disease.  More ….   Going Green with New Look of School Milk

Going Green with New Look of School Milk Recycling Grants –Awarded!

Aurora Public School District, Greeley-Evans School District and St. John’s Lutheran School in Denver are “going green” as they receive grant money from the Western Dairy Association to implement New Look of School Milk recycling programs.  This incentive program stemmed from the National Dairy Council’s move towards the New Look of School Milk ; easy-to-open, single-serve, plastic milk bottles, attractively merchandized and offered in a variety of sizes and flavors.  Western Dairy Association’s Going Green withNew Look of School Milk Grant was developed to give three interested Colorado school districts the financial tools and support necessary to create their own unique recycling program that encourages environmentally responsible behavior not only in the cafeteria with plastic milk bottle recycling, but in the school/district as a whole.

For more information about how your school or district can “go green” and develop a New Look of School Milk recycling program , click here!
